Bristol

Today was spent in Bristol, and what a truly lovely city it is. Situated on the Avon River, it comes across like a genuine harbour city, yet it is inland. We did lots of walking today and took in the beautiful Bristol Cathedral; Cabot’s Tower, from which one has a 360 degree view of the city and its environs; the famous Clifton suspension bridge, designed and built by Brunel, who was also responsible for building the world’s first iron, steamed powered ship, the SS Great Britain (which is also on display in Bristol); the University of Bristol, and many other attractions. Bristol, as a city, is over a thousand years old, and there are still plenty of old buildings to be seen.

Something we can’t quite get over is how dogs are allowed on public buses. The first time we saw a lady bring her dog on the bus we thought to ourselves, what about the smell. We soon realised, however, that the dog would just have to get used to it.
The River Avon runs right through the city

It’s off to Wales tomorrow, firstly Cardiff and then Swansea. I will be using my very Welsh name to get in good with the locals. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if we didn’t get the keys to the city or something.
